Packages and plugins
The hosted server needs no install, but some people expect a package they can run themselves. From MCP Studio, you can ship your server under your own name, as an npm or PyPI package, a Claude Desktop bundle, or a Claude Code plugin.
| Format | Who it's for | Install |
|---|---|---|
| npm package | Anyone with Node | npx @acme/ |
| PyPI package | Anyone with Python | uvx acme-payments-mcp |
.mcpb bundle | Claude Desktop users | Open the file |
| Claude Code plugin | Claude Code users | Add your marketplace once |
Your own npm package
Publish the server under your name. People install your package, run your command and set your variables: for example @acme/payments-mcp, run as acme-payments-mcp, configured with ACME_PAYMENTS_API_TOKEN. Nothing they install comes from Octri.
Publishing uses the npm account linked in SDK Studio, under Publishing. Press Download .zip to publish the same files from your own CI instead.
Your own PyPI package
The same again for Python, using the PyPI account linked in SDK Studio. Download PyPI .zip gives you the files.
From the CLI, see packages and plugins.
One-click bundle for Claude Desktop
A .mcpb file holds the whole server, and Claude Desktop installs it when it's opened. It asks for the credential during the install, so nobody edits a config file. Download .mcpb gets the file, or share the page's install link.
Each tool group has its own bundle. From the CLI, octri mcp package download --target bundle saves it, and --group <slug> takes one group's.
Claude Code plugin
From the Starter plan, you can offer your server as a Claude Code plugin. It holds the server, your guides as a skill, and your prompts as slash commands.
Turn on Offer the plugin and publish. People add your marketplace once:
/plugin marketplace add https://api.octri.dev/api/v1/public/mcp/YOUR_PROJECT_ID/claude/marketplace.jsonOptions
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Plugin MCP server | Which server the plugin connects to |
| Prompts as commands | Which prompts become slash commands |
| Offer a practice plugin | A second plugin with fake responses and no sign-in. Turn on practice mode first |
| GitHub repository | Pushes the plugin to a repository of yours. Choose Push again after every publish to keep it current |
Staying up to date
A package holds your tools as they were when it was published. To change it, publish again, then have people update. The hosted server needs no update, which makes it the better default.
