Octri

Page settings

Beyond its content, a page has settings for how it appears in the sidebar, in search results and in its URL. Most of them live on its row's ⋯ menu or in the bar above the editor.

Settings

The icon, badge and lifecycle are held as drafts like the page itself, and readers see them when you publish.

Iconicon namedefault: the default mark

The glyph beside the page's title in the sidebar, chosen in its Rename dialog from the icon set. Choose None to show no glyph.

icon on the page's row in octri.json. "none" shows no glyph, and leaving it out keeps the default mark.

Badgetextdefault: none

A short word after the title in the sidebar, such as New. Up to 24 characters, because a sidebar row has no room for more.

Badge colourchoicedefault: accent

accent (your primary colour), gray, green, blue, amber, red or purple.

Lifecyclechoicedefault: stable
ValueWhat readers see
stableNothing extra
betaA Beta badge in the navigation, and a banner on the page
deprecatedA Deprecated badge in the navigation, and a banner on the page
Lifecycle notetextdefault: none

A sentence for the banner, such as what to use instead. Up to 500 characters.

Search title and description

Under SEO, in the bar above the editor.

Search titletextdefault: your title template

Replaces the page's whole title tag, site name included. Up to 200 characters. Leave it empty to use the site's title template.

Meta descriptiontextdefault: the page's first paragraph

What search results and link previews show for this page. Up to 320 characters.

See SEO for the site-wide settings.

Renaming and URLs

Rename changes the page's title, and its URL path if you want. A page's address is /<tab>/<folder>/<page>, and you can set each part yourself.

Keep the old address working

When a change would move a page's address, the dialog offers Keep the old address working. It is ticked for you. Leave it on, and anyone following an old link is redirected.

Redirecting a page

To retire a page without breaking links, choose Redirect to another page in its dialog. Readers land on the other page, from every tab that lists it. This takes effect when you publish.

For addresses that have no page at all, add a redirect rule.

Placing a page

ActionWhat it does
Move toMoves the page to another folder or tab
Copy toLists the page in a second place too
DuplicateMakes an independent copy
Remove from tabTakes it out of this tab without deleting it
Set as home pageServes it at /. See home page
Copy page URLCopies the published address

A page listed in several tabs has an address in each. The first one in tab order is its canonical address, which is what the sitemap lists.

Hiding a page

Hiding takes a row out of the sidebar. The page stays reachable at its URL. To keep a page from being read at all, leave it unpublished or use access control.

From the CLI

A page's title can be changed with octri docs pages title, and its redirects with octri docs redirects.
